Liverpool FC Women

Liverpool FC Women have deeper roots than many realise. The club was founded in 1989 as Newton LFC by former England international Liz Deighan, was renamed Knowsley United WFC in 1991 — becoming founder members of the WFA National Premier Division — and became Liverpool's official women's team in 1994. The Reds were founder members of the Women's Super League in 2011, and a year later made history as the first English football club to offer every female player a full-time professional contract, a landmark moment in the professionalisation of the women's game. That investment brought swift reward: managed by Matt Beard and featuring stars like Fara Williams and a young Lucy Bronze, Liverpool won back-to-back WSL titles in 2013 and 2014, the second on a dramatic final day. The club dropped "Ladies" for "Women" in 2018.
