Portsmouth FC Women
Portsmouth Women, nicknamed Pompey like the men's club, have a heritage that stretches back further than most. A Portsmouth Ladies side was formed in 1916 — one of many women's teams active during the First World War, and the first women's football team in Hampshire — before the FA's ban on the women's game cut that chapter short. The club in its modern form was founded in 1987 as Portsmouth Ladies, and rose to a Women's FA Cup quarter-final in 2013/14. The big change came in 2023, when the men's club's owners, the Eisner family's Tornante Company, fully incorporated and invested in the women's team, allowing semi-professional contracts for the first time. The reward came fast: promotion to the Championship in 2023/24 as a semi-pro side, and a step up to fully professional football soon after. They play at Westleigh Park in nearby Havant.
